The reshaping of teeth, also called odontoplasty or enameloplasty, is called recontouring.
The general procedure involves correcting the shape, size or surface contours of the teeth with minor abrasions from the enamel surface.
The purpose of the procedure is to improve the overall appearance and balance the smile by correcting the appearance of the individual’s own teeth.
According to the current situation, it can be applied alone or as part of aesthetic smile design and can be applied together with tooth whitening, gingival aesthetics and laminated restorations.
The purpose of the recontouring application is to improve the appearance of the teeth of the people and to make them look more aesthetic and smile. Recontouring can also be applied by itself according to the current state of the teeth. It is also known that the application is used with gum aesthetics, teeth whitening and lamina arrangements in order to contribute to smile design.
Recontouring is known as one of the most protective of the cosmetic procedures performed by dentists. With this application, it is possible to collect bacterial plaque in the teeth and gums and to eliminate minor problems that cause dental calculus.
For small fractures on the teeth, recontouring is used to soften the pits and fissures on the enamel surface and to smooth the asymmetrical tooth structures. Recontouring is also applied to regulate the sharpness and height of canines. However, this application does not replace the other aesthetic treatment methods such as bonding and veneer.
If the application of recontouring is not sufficient to remove irregularities in the teeth, it is aimed to get a better result by including bonding application to the treatment. Bonding is the process of repairing decayed, broken, worn or discolored teeth with a composite resin material of the same color as the tooth.
Recontouring will be performed as a result of detailed examination by dentists. Dentists evaluate how close the nerve tissues of the teeth are to the surface on radiographs taken during these examinations. It is decided to perform recontouring after determining that the nerve tissues are at the appropriate distance to the tooth surface. Since recontouring is a superficial procedure, anesthesia is not usually performed. This is because the pulp, the living part of the tooth, will not be affected during the procedure. Recontouring process is applied with the help of fine and low abrasive burs. After the process is finished, the teeth are polished and the application is completed.
Recontouring for the primary purpose of tooth reshaping is performed only when the entire tooth structure is intact. In other words, reconturing is preferred only for superficial problems in the teeth. If the enamel layer is thin or the pulp is too close to the tooth surface, recontouring may not be performed. This decision is made by the dentist who conducts the treatment.
After the recontoring process consisting of polishing and regaining the teeth, the patients do not need special care. It is enough to brush and floss regularly. Extra care is required if recontouring with no foreign material is placed with the bonding application. It is recommended to give more importance to the cleanliness of the teeth in order to prevent the color change of the composite resin which is one of the bonding materials.
To maintain dental health and to detect any problems as soon as possible, the dentist should be routinely visited every 6 months. It is important for dental health that people who have recontouring practice to obey this rule.
I came from Qatar to have my dental treatments. I found the dental office online. I called and met .. My hotel organization was done. They met me at the airport. My treatment process went very well, very kind people. Would recommend to anyone.
We came at night because we know that the dental clinic is open 24/7. I had a complaint of excessive toothache. Quickly x-rayed and checked. Although my home is an hour away, I always prefer to have a dental office for the following processes.
